Each year, our members nominate colleagues for the CNADM Member of the Year Award. This award is given to an individual who has supported and promoted CNADM within their studio, as well as supported the art of dance within their community, and tonight’s honoree has certainly gone above and beyond the requirements of this prestigious award.
Some students and friends alike would describe this member as warm, honest, caring, and having an unconditional love and enthusiasm for dance. Many generations of dancers have been taught by this instructor - some continuing the tradition by becoming teachers of dance in their own right.
And, whether it is Hawaiian, Tahitian, belly dancing, jazz or hip-hop, this teacher has kept up with all the trends and is still dancing right alongside her students.
Our honoree has also benefitted her community in a multitude of ways - by having her students perform for local fundraisers, for church functions, supporting community events, and more. She has provided lessons for those who could not afford to pay for them. She holds special classes for those students who are visually impaired, or have a physical handicap. In fact, it has been said of her that she teaches them than just dancing. She teaches them life lessons as well – that no matter what your circumstances, you can, and you will, overcome.
This member has been an active part of CNADM for over 60 years! And, she has had her dance studio for just as long. Around here, you may find her being a friend to new and old members alike- she’s often the first one to welcome a new attendee and make sure they feel at home. In recent years, she has also been recognized by her community as one of “Chicago’s Very Own…,” had has had a street named in her honor!
Please join us in congratulating “Miss” Geri Mroz Panicko of Geri’s School of Dance, as CNADM’s 2015 Member of the Year!
